M.S. Application Procedures

Requirements for Admission to Advanced Studies in Speech Pathology

To be CONSIDERED for admission to the Graduate Communicative Disorders Program, applicants must meet the minimum requirements for admission to the Graduate School of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and complete the following:

(Return all items to the Graduate School Office at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences)

1. All students must submit official GRE scores.

ALL GRE SCORES MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE UAMS GRADUATE SCHOOL OFFICE.

THE GRE INSTITUTION CODE FOR THE GRADUATE SCHOOL AT UAMS IS

6901 U AR Med Sci Graduate School

2. Submit one copy of official transcripts from all colleges/universities that the applicant has attended. Official transcripts must be submitted to the Graduate School, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, 4301 W. Markham, #601; Little Rock, AR 72205. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required. GPA is computed on all courses attempted while earning the earliest undergraduate degree regardless of any modification to the GPA by the undergraduate institution concerning repeated courses. The GPA calculated by the Graduate School may not be the same as shown on the undergraduate transcript.

3. For students with undergraduate degrees in areas other than communication disorders or communication sciences, 30 semester credit hours of undergraduate course work in audiology and speech pathology are required and must be completed prior to beginning the graduate program.

4. Three Communicative Disorders recommendation forms submitted in sealed envelopes with a signature across the flap.

New students are admitted to the program only for the Fall semester. All applicant materials (i.e., application, official transcripts and official GRE scores) for the next Fall semester must be received no later than February 15. Since an applicant file must be complete by February 15, early submission is recommended, and early admission may be considered for selected students. Late applications will be considered ONLY if space is available.

Students whose degrees are not in Communicative Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology must complete a sequence of ten pre-professional communicative disorders courses before admission to the program. Dr. Betholyn Gentry advises all such post-baccalaureate students. She can be reached by phone through the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at (501) 569-3155 or by email at BFGentry@uams.edu

If you have questions regarding admission please contact Dr. Kathy L. Shapley in the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at (501) 682-1456 or by email at ShapleyKathyL@uams.edu.
