Clinical Practicum
The UALR/UAMS Department of Audiology and
Speech Pathology is located in the largest metropolitan area of
Arkansas. Because of this, students enrolled in the program are afforded
a wide variety of practicum sites in Pulaski County and the surrounding
area. Practicum sites include, but are not limited to: all three school
districts in Pulaski County; ten major acute care hospitals, including
the only teaching hospital in the state (University Hospital) and two
Veterans Administration Medical Centers; several rehabilitation centers
including a large residential facility for persons with traumatic brain
injury; many long-term care facilities; two residential centers for
adults with developmental disabilities; preschools and DDS centers; the
Arkansas Easter Seal Society; the United Cerebral Palsy Center; plus
many local private therapy practices.
In addition, if students are commuting to Little Rock from towns and
cities outside Pulaski County, arrangements for practicum may
occasionally be made at or near the student's home. All supervision for
practicum sites is provided by ASHA-certified, Arkansas-licensed,
speech-language pathologists or audiologists.
