Novel Methodologies and Pilot Studies

Core description

Mike OwensFostering interactions among talented investigators, cross-fertilizing research ideas, and generating translational projects to enhance individual talents are the goals of this Arkansas CCTR component. Through NIH and UAMS funds, this CCTR program component seeks to develop a process to continuously identify innovation and innovators at UAMS and then supply these projects and people with the resources needed to be successful.

Integral to this component are the Rainmakers: a group of established investigators with broad knowledge in multiple areas of science, proven capacities to bridge different fields, and the ability to build successful research teams.

The goals of this component are to create a UAMS research environment that 1) focuses the creative minds of scientific and clinical researchers on application of innovative ideas and knowledge to benefit patients and communities; 2) brings new talent to clinical and translational sciences; 3) facilitates cross-fertilization by population, clinical, and laboratory-based sciences to increase the pace of medical discovery; and 4) identifies and manages barriers, thereby decreasing the time needed to bring important discoveries to patients' bedsides and the community.
