Biomedical Informatics -
Comprehensive
Informatics Resource Center
Core Description
Translational research requires
the aggregation of clinical and research data in a user-friendly, easily queried
repository that maintains the privacy and security of the data. The enterprise
wide Comprehensive Informatics Resource Center (CIRC) was formed to develop and
evaluate a biomedical knowledge grid to support translational research. CIRC is
coordinating the integration of clinical and research data resources into an
advanced grid-computing environment designed to improve access to the data,
computational resources, instruments, and expertise. CIRC is also developing and
supporting enterprise-wide translational research management tools and
processes. In addition CIRC is providing support and educational programs to
promote the use of informatics technologies in clinical translational research
and the sharing of information across communities. The academic component of the
CIRC, the Division of Informatics, has been formed to support informatics
education and research.
