We would like to clarify the different roles that our
Department and Physical Plant play when it comes to renovation & upgrading facilities.
Many people think that we are part of Physical Plant, which is not the case. We are
a separate and distinct department under the direction of Leo Gehring,
Vice Chancellor for Campus Operations.
To simplify our responsibilities in basic terms, we design
the facilities, and Physical Plant maintains them. The lines become somewhat cloudy in the
renovation, as opposed to the construction. Physical Plant does very minor renovations (up
to $2,000 in cost and jobs that do not require structural modification.) If you have a
project that you feel will cost more than $2,000 or require structural changes, then refer
to the policies below.
Sometimes, projects get delayed through
improper routing. Your Business Manager can help you get started in the "right"
direction. Don't hesitate to call us if you are still uncertain whether to follow the
work order route to Physical Plant, or the project request route through Construction
Management. The appropriate forms and policies are listed below to help you on the
initiation process.
