Welcome to the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at UAMS
The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at UAMS is committed to achieving excellence in patient care, teaching young minds to become Cardiovascular specialists, and searching for novel diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. We have world-class facilities for diagnosis of diseases affecting the blood vessels, heart valves, and myocardial tissue. These facilities include ECG, exercise stress testing, echocardiography, cardiac CT and MR, coronary interventions, electrophysiology, and nuclear medicine evaluation. Our staff comprises experts in drug therapy, intracoronary intervention, cardiac surgery, and heart transplants. We train physicians who will teach and practice cardiovascular medicine in communities around the world. Active research programs span from biochemical studies to clinical applications. Our research involves cellular and molecular biology as well as human trials of new treatments and technological devices. We are particularly proud of some of the recent initiatives in our Division. Three years ago we started a GUCH (Gown Up Children with Heart Disease) clinic to train fellows in congenital heart disease in adult patients and a telemedicine program to provide care to patients unable to come to UAMS clinics. Some of our faculty members have a joint appointment in Radiology which allows them to be intimately involved in interpreting and developing new cardiovascular imaging modalities. We coordinate care of the patients with peripheral vascular disease with faculty members in Radiology and Vascular Surgery. Training programs include General Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Electrophysiology. We are proud to be one of the handful of medical centers that can train people in three separate specialty programs.
