Leo Gehring
Region 7 Director
ASHE Board of Directors

February 12th, 2002

It is my pleasure to serve as your representative to the ASHE Board of Directors.  During my term as you Regional Director I have committed to work on at least three main objectives:
  •      To represent the region’s requirements and concerns to the ASHE Board and to facilitate the growth of local chapters and their members.

  •      To help our members working in the small and rural  hospitals of the Region 7 obtain enhanced services from ASHE that can be used to improve their environment and provide operational efficiencies.

  •      To work tirelessly on advocacy issues to insure a safe and effective environment without wasted resources or effort.

Today I can use your help on working toward the first objective.  A process that can help with this objective is for all members to keep their contact information updated at both ASHE and AAHE.  When your contact information is accurate, all of the services provided by both organizations can be sent to you quickly and accurately.  If you are an ASHE member, you can update your contact information directly on the ASHE website (www.ASHE.org).  If you have any trouble with this process, please let me know.  To update your AAHE information, please send me an email at  (lmgehring@uams.edu) and I will update the information for you.  Please remember to include your email address.

A couple of things you can do for yourself is to investigate the opportunities of participating in the Actions for Professional Excellence Recognition (APEx) and the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) programs.  I regret that so far, I have not taken advantage of either of these programs. This is about to change.  I am brushing up on my skills in preparation of taking the CHFM exam.  Once this is complete, I will pursue the APEx program.   I have not set a completion date for ether, but I have taken the first steps.  Both of these programs have features that work to help you sharpen your skills and then when successful, demonstrate your leadership and expertise to all that see your credentials.  Again, if you need help or information on either of these programs please call me at 501-686-5684.

In future columns I hope to continue to bring you news from ASHE and provide other information that you can use in your daily efforts.  Please do not hesitate to contact me and let me know your thoughts on ASHE or any other areas you feel need attention.

Thank you.
