A
parent's role is constantly evolving. At times, the work of a parent can
feel stressful, challenging, and sometimes daunting, especially when a son
or daughter has been exposed to a traumatic event, including physical or
sexual abuse or some other violent act, catastrophe, or significant loss.
AR BEST was created with parents and their
children in mind. Our mission is to train professionals in Arkansas to
provide the best care possible for youth experiencing trauma, their siblings
(when appropriate) and their parents, caregivers or other family members.
It's important to find a mental health professional near you with
specialized training in trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy
(TF-CBT), one of the most effective interventions developed to treat
trauma. TF-CBT has shown to be an effective treatment for children ages
3-17 years old. It teaches children and adolescents as well as other family
members about the emotional and physical effects of trauma and coping skills
to reduce negative effects. To find a clinician who has specialized trauma
training visit our "Trained
Clinicians" page. Visit our "Resources" page to find agencies and
organizations specializing in trauma so you might better help your child if
he or she is recovering from a traumatic event.
