Facts about Loss

• Approximately 15-20% of all pregnancies result in miscarriage or stillbirth.  Approximately 1% of newborns in Arkansas pass away.

• The causes of such losses can vary greatly and many remain medically unexplainable.

• The feelings that parents can have as a result also vary in type, intensity, and duration.

• Most parents inform us that the initial feelings after the loss of a baby are those of disbelief. You may have experienced symptoms of numbness, a short attention span, and even moments of denial.

• Significant sadness and disappointment may soon follow. Other emotions can include anger, guilt, and fear. Physical symptoms may feel quite intense and include fatigue, headaches, problems with sleeping, inability to make decisions and loss of appetite. You may start to withdraw from your family and friends.
