Simulator Training

Method of utilization:
The full human simulator offers a great advantage in training medical students, residents and fellows. It can be programmed to simulate different clinical situations and scenarios. Creating an operating room environment and simulator setup helps to optimize the learning and educational experience. The feeling can not be more realistic as changes in heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, capnography, central venous pressure, respiratory rate and patient temperature; along with many other variables, are measured and displayed on the monitor.

The Department of Anesthesiology uses the human simulator to train medical students and residents in airway management techniques, hemodynamic assessment and acute management of hemodynamic changes. These include direct laryngoscopy, intubation, laryngeal airway mask (LMA) placement, monitoring of vital signs and changes in hemodynamic parameters. The ultimate goal is to train all medical students to a high level of competence in the management of the airway and hemodynamic assessment. We believe that this will improve patient care by providing skills which are considered to be the most vital to life.  Without these skills, most patients in a code situation or distress would not survive.

Our simulation center includes training rooms equipped with audio and visual recording devices for recording of performance, playback for review, and feedback sessions.
