Frequently Asked Questions

What are the strengths of your program?
The Anesthesiology Residency Program provides residents with a variety of educational experiences necessary for developing a solid knowledge base and clinical competence to achieve their goal of becoming a competent anesthesiologist.  This experience includes pediatric anesthesia, geriatric anesthesia, neuro anesthesia, cardiothoracic anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, acute and chronic pain management, and care of critically ill patients in the ICU.  Simulation training is also provided to residents based on their level of training.  Residents are provided with didactic sessions including grand rounds, journal clubs, case conferences, level specific study groups, PBLD, and mock oral examinations.

Is there an appropriate balance between didactics and clinical work?
We believe it is necessary to provide residents with the proper balance of educational and clinical experience in order to succeed. On average, residents in our program spend 60 hours per week involved in clinical/educational activities.  The amount of time will vary depending on the rotation and level of experience.
