Burn Center

The Arkansas Children’s Hospital Burn Center has been open since 1953. In 2007 the Burn Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital obtained the American Burn Association and American College of Surgeon’s prestigious verification designation. Currently Arkansas Children’s Hospital is home to the ONLY dedicated Burn Center in the state. The center treats more than 200 severely burned children and adults each year.

Terry Fletcher, MD, PhD was named the first Director of Burn Anesthesiology. James Hunt, MD joined Dr. Fletcher as the Co-Director of Burn Anesthesiology shortly after. The Burn Center Anesthesiology Team focuses specifically on providing anesthesia to burn patients which better enables them to manage any complications unique to patients suffering from severe burns.

The ACH Burn Center offers many programs to the public in addition to the clinical services offered. These include an outreach program, Camp Sunshine (an annual 4 day camp for pediatric burn survivors), a Burn Family Support Group (a weekly dinner meeting for burn family members), and an Annual Golf Tournament.
