The goal of the Region 11 Prevention Resource Center (PRC) is to provide, for all ages, information, skills, and environments that will prevent or delay the onset of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug experimentation and use that may lead to substance abuse addiction and many other related problems.
With funding assistance from the Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention of the Department of Health and Human Services, the PRC operates a clearinghouse for print materials and a loan library of books and audio-visual materials. Training for both adult and youth leaders and technical assistance in prevention program development is provided by the PRC.
The PRC is affiliated with the Health Science Education Foundation and UAMS/AHEC South Arkansas. The PRC is located in the AHEC South Arkansas' facilities at 460 West Oak, El Dorado. The PRC Coordinator is a Certified Prevention Consultant, an Advanced Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and has a Master of Science in Addiction Studies. The Assistant Coordinator is currently attending college classes and is working toward her prevention certification.
