Dr. Danny L. Proffitt graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical
Sciences in 1978 and completed his Family Medicine Residency at the AHEC-NW
Family Medicine Residency Program in 1981. An Assistant Professor since 1981
in the UAMS Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, Dr. Proffitt was
tenured in 1987. He has served as the Clinic Director of the Family Medical
Center in Fayetteville from 1988 through 1996. From 1996 until 2002 he was
the Clinic Director for the residency program's second Family Medicine
center, the Northwest Family Medical Center in Springdale. In 2002 he
resumed his role as the Clinic Director for the Family Medical Center in
Fayetteville.
Dr. Proffitt's medical career has focused on service to his patients and to
the community, teaching both residents and medical students for over 25
years, and on providing leadership among his medical colleagues. Among his
many accomplishments, he served for 2 years as Chief of Staff at the
Washington Regional Medical Center and he has chaired many medical
committees through the years at WRMC and Fayetteville City Hospital. He was
instrumental in leading the revival of the Arkansas Perinatal Association,
serving as President of that organization from 1987-88. He was appointed in
1990 by (then) Governor Bill Clinton to be a member of the task force for
the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation's "Healthy Futures Project", a
collaboration between UAMS and the Arkansas Department of Health to
establish the State's "Campaign for Healthy Babies." He served as the
President of the Washington County Medical Society in 1990, as well as being
a Washington County delegate to the Arkansas Medical Society for several
terms. Senator Dale Bumpers selected Dr. Proffitt to testify before the
Senate Small Business Committee in January 1994 to discuss Health Care
Reform. Dr. Proffitt is active in the Arkansas Academy of Family Physicians
and was inducted as the Vice-President of the ArAFP in July 2007.
Born in Dyess, Arkansas in the northeast delta portion of the State, Dr.
Proffitt received his BS in Zoology at Arkansas State University in
Jonesboro, Arkansas in 1974. Married with three sons and two dogs, he and
his wife reside in her home town of Fayetteville. Dr. Proffitt's interests
include travel, gardening and landscaping, genealogy, and choral music. He
and his family are active members of the University Baptist Church.
