During the 2007-08 academic year the AHEC clinical pharmacists served as
preceptors for 32 traditional and 9 non-traditional pharmacy students.
The non-traditional program at UAMS began in 1991 and has provided an accessible
pathway for 569 practicing pharmacists to earn a PharmD degree.
The AHEC pharmacists have served as ambulatory care preceptors for many of their
peers through this program, which closed in
June of 2008.
Other service to the College of Pharmacy included coordinating and providing
local continuing education programs, teaching didactic therapeutic courses at
UAMS, and lecturing at regional district meetings. Presentations to local
medical societies, grand rounds for regional hospitals and curriculum
development for pharmacy-based diabetes programs were also integral to providing
current and quality information within each AHEC region. Statewide, AHEC faculty
lectured at meetings for the Arkansas Pharmacists Association, the Association
of Health-System Pharmacists and the Academy of Consultant Pharmacists.
