Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute, Department of Pediatrics, received funding from the U.S. Department of Education for a five-year project to develop, evaluate, and disseminate a model Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) inservice training program for regular and special education teachers, administrators, counselors, school nurses, and related personnel.
The purpose of the inservice program is to increase awareness of the characteristics, assessment, and management of ADD, to provide training in the implementation of classroom intervention techniques to meet the educational needs of children with ADD, and to provide training in school identification and assessment. The curriculum is based on the research literature on identification, assessment, and management of children with ADD.
To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills, the presentation format utilizes direct teaching, visual aides, written handouts, case studies, demonstrations, role plays, video modeling, and group practice exercises.
