Biographical Sketch

    Malay K. Mazumder held a Graduate Fellowship at Harvard University before coming to the University of Arkansas Graduate Institute of Technology as a faculty member in 1971 in the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation, now the Department of Applied Science. He was promoted to the rank of professor in 1981. From 1981-88, he served as director of the University?s Graduate Institute of Technology; additionally, he was Head of the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation from 1981 until July 1990. In 1991, he was promoted to the rank of University Professor. His research accomplishments include the development and resulting U.S. Patent of the E-SPART Analyzer, a laser based research instrument unique in the field of aerosol science and powder technology. He received the 1988 R&D 100 Award. His research interests include optical science and engineering, particle and powder technology, air pollution control, laser applications of life sciences, medical aerosols, and electrostatic engineering. His work has been cited in six books. He is author or co-author of over 70 publications in his field. He has served as the principle investigator for 50 research grants and contracts totaling over $3 million. Dr. Mazumder has been a recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award for Research at UALR and has supervised more than 20 master's theses and doctoral dissertations. Dr. Mazumder serves as the Chief Editor of the Particulate Science and Technology: An International Journal. He is a Commissioner of the Arkansas Martin Luther King Commission.
