Barbara L. Pate, Ph.D., R.N.

Barbara Pate is a doctorally prepared nurse with a Master’s Degree in Public Health Epidemiology. She came to the UAMS College of Nursing in 2008 with more than 15 years experience with the Arkansas Department of Health as a leader in administration, epidemiology and informatics. Dr. Pate's research interests are in multimodal e-Learning strategies for creating interactive social contexts for online learning. She is currently the PI on a project at White River Medical Center that is testing the effectiveness of Wiki Journal Clubs for improving evidence-based practice collaboration in rural settings. She is also a co-investigator at Arkansas Children's Hospital's on a research project that is examining the impact of an e-Learning training program for enhancing multidisciplinary Evidence-based Practice (EBP).
Dr. Pate is the Specialty Coordinator for the Nurse Administration Master's Program in the College of Nursing. In addition to telecommunicating courses to AHECs across the state, she has incorporated numerous e-learning technologies into her courses to facilitate effective distance-learning, such as Wimba, Wikis, Jing, Eye-Jot, Group Skype and TeamViewer. She has also developed and incorporated financial management and informatics courses into the Nurse Administration program to meet the emergent needs of Arkansas nurse managers and executives. She is an active member of the Council on Graduate Education for Nurse Administration, the American Organization for Nurse Executives and the American Nursing Informatics Association. Dr. Pate strongly believes that effective nurse educators are those who teach with their hearts!
Dr. Pate received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Arkansas State University and her MPH and PhD in Nursing from UAMS.
