Director, Family Medicine Residency Program
Regional Programs
Linda A. McGhee, M.D., holds the rank of Associate Professor in the UAMS College of Medicine and is board certified in both Family Medicine and Pediatrics, was selected as the recipient of the 2011 AHEC Excellence in Teaching award to recognize her numerous contributions to resident and medical student education. Dr. McGhee is currently the Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program and has overseen the expansion of the entering resident group from 9 to 10 residents this year. In her long tenure with AHEC Northwest in Fayetteville, Dr. McGhee has assumed many teaching roles and worn many hats. Over the years, she has served as director of the Family Medical Center and coordinated the pediatrics, community medicine and behavioral sciences curriculum. She has served as the facilitator for the Resident Support Group and developed Individual Educational Programs for PGY1 residents to promote attainment of required competencies. She is described by a colleague as an “avid supporter of the less fortunate.” In addition to her AHEC responsibilities, Dr. McGhee has served as the medical director for the Washington County HIV Clinic, the first such clinic in the state, for almost 20 years. She has also served as president of the Arkansas Academy of Family Physicians and been a member of both the Arkansas State Medical Society and the Arkansas State Board of Health. Dr. McGhee truly exemplifies the qualities of a master teacher through her teaching and example. As one of the residents said when describing his experience during the Community Medicine rotation, “my eyes were opened to the plight of the area’s underserved and my potential position to champion their cause.”
