Karen Davis has been a nurse educator since 1987 and began her career as a faculty member in the College of Nursing in January, 2006.  At UAMS, she has taught several courses, including Foundations II, Maternity & Women’s Health, Psychiatric Mental Health, Leadership & Management, and Issues for the online RN to Masters program. Currently, she is teaching Leadership & Management online and a clinical Community Health course for senior nursing students in the baccalaureate nursing program.

At UAMS, Karen serves on the Admission and Progression Committee, UAMS Library Advisory Committee, Conflict of Interest Committee, Academic Senate Sub-Committee on Faculty Affairs, Evaluation Task Force Committee, as well as an ad hoc member of the Awards & Scholarship Committee.  She has also served as a past board member of Programs in Psychiatric Nursing.

She has been awarded the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society Excellence in Nursing Education Award, as well as the Outstanding RN-to-BSN/MNSc Student to Faculty Award in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Karen was selected and served on a Panel of Judges for the National Council of State Boards to select the questions to be included in the next NCLEX exam, and was also selected as an item writer for the National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Educator exam.

Karen was first author on an article that she co-authored with her husband, and an academic mentor, that was published in MedSurg Nursing which was titled, “First Down! Keeping Your Team in the Game with Great Coaching.”  Her husband has been a coach for almost 40 years, so his input was ‘invaluable’.

Karen earned her BSN from Henderson State University and her MSN from the University of Central Arkansas, with an emphasis on nursing education.  She has also earned the Certified Nurse Educator credentials for passing the National League for Nursing national exam.
