Translational Technologies and Resources
Specific Aims
Aim 1. Establish a Translational
Technologies and Resources Support Center to facilitate interactions between
technology experts and translational researchers, enhancing progress and
successful completion of projects. The TTR Support Center will organize
workshops and training sessions to educate TRI investigators/researchers
and will provide hands-on training where appropriate. The TTR Support Center
Director (Philip R. Mayeux, PhD) serves as a technology advisor to assist
investigators, particularly new investigators who are being mentored through
the Research Education, Training, and Career Development.
Aim 2. Provide a centralized infrastructure to strengthen
existing cores through regular assessments. Each core facility will conduct
an annual self-assessment to be evaluated against benchmarks by a Technology
Assessment Committee, chaired by the TTR Support Center Director. Results
will be used to make decisions regarding core viability, operations costs,
and billing. The TTR Support Center will also prioritize and fund advanced
training for Core Directors and key personnel.
Aim 3. Encourage adoption of new technologies for clinical and translational
research by establishing new cores to meet evolving needs of TRI
investigators. Translational research most benefits from technology
resources with the ability to evolve as research changes. We will meet this
need by optimizing/validating new techniques to improve existing cores and
establish new technology-based cores. The TTR Support Center will be a
conduit for communication between TRI investigators and core facilities and
will assist in securing funding for core funding support and updates.
