Biomedical Informatics -
Comprehensive Informatics Resource Center

Core Description

The Translational Research Institute (TRI) established the Comprehensive Informatics Resource Center (CIRC) to integrate informatics resources across the UAMS campus and its partner institutions:  Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the National Center for Toxicological Research, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  The CIRC serves as the translational informatics arm of the Division of Biomedical Informatics within the College of Medicine.

CIRC members have been driving the creation and development of enterprise-wide informatics resources for translational research.  CIRC is the home for the UAMS Clinical Trials Management Suite, which currently supports over 150 trials at UAMS and elsewhere.  CIRC has been leading and championing the development of the UAMS Data Trust, an enterprise-wide data warehouse that will facilitate access to clinical data and the integration of clinical with basic-science data for translational research.

In addition to these activities, CIRC faculty and staff are available to advise investigators and form research collaborations.

CIRC support for clinical and translational research activities includes:

  • Institutional maintenance and support of the UAMS Clinical Trials Management Suite, which includes components for electronic case report forms, surveys, patient registration, biological-specimen handling, and study calendars
  • Consultation regarding informatics-focused study design & implementation
  • Informatics education and training
  • Computational resources, instruments, and expertise
  • Expertise in immunoinformatics, proteomics, genomics, and glycomics
  • Database design
  • Computer workstations and other equipment (e.g., digital camera) for use within the Clinical Research Services Core
  • Software for data analysis (e.g., TomoVision’s sliceOmatic medical image analysis software)
