Biomedical Informatics -
Comprehensive Informatics Resource Center

Specific Aims

Aim 1. Create a federated data system to integrate UAMS electronic medical records (EMR) and research data and to integrate with data from other research centers via the NCI's caBIG network. The web-based federated system will combine a clinical data warehouse with autonomous research databases linked through the caXchange data hub.

Aim 2. Enhance and maintain digital enterprise systems incorporating regulatory guidelines and standards to assist translational researchers in the design, implementation, and management of research projects. CIRC is establishing a "one-stop" protocol submission interface by expanding the capabilities of the current online protocol and regulatory system (ARIA). This system will link to the developing UAMS Clinical Trials consisting of an integration of caBIG Clinical Trials Suite, OpenClinica, TrialDB, and the UAMS Data Federation.
Aim 3. Develop the TRI web portal and investigator dashboards. The portal will link existing tools, resources, and information to support translational research among research, clinical, and public communities. Investigator dashboards will provide access for analyzing data from the UAMS Data Federation.
Aim 4. Provide informatics tools for collaboration and community engagement to support translational research. CIRC will provide information, training, digital tools for collaboration and social networking, and technical support tailored for specific communities.

Aim 5. Train the next generation of information researchers, promote translational informatics in graduate programs, and provide training and support to researchers. CIRC focuses its educational efforts on informatics as a science and applied discipline; on supporting researchers, staff, and students to use informatics resources; and on supporting the other TRI components to use appropriate information technologies in their educational programs.
