Design, Biostatistics, and Ethics
Specific Aims
Aim 1. Collaborate with investigators from the earliest stages of study
design to ensure the use of best biostatistical and ethical practices in
clinical and translational research. Studies will receive an appropriate amount
of assistance from the outset, resulting in ethically and scientifically sound
study designs, efficient use of resources, and hastened regulatory approval.
Aim 2. Expand education and mentoring in research design, biostatistics, and
research ethics to train junior investigators in conducting scientifically and
ethically sound clinical and translational research. The DBE will work with the
TRI Navigator, and leaders in the “Education” and “Novel Methodologies/Pilot
Studies” program components to develop education and mentoring strategies in
study design, biostatistics, and ethics for investigators, fellows, and
trainees. DBE also plans to expand its successful biostatistics program by
developing a degree program for a Master of Science in Biostatistics.
Aim 3. Conduct innovative research in biostatistics and research ethics in
response to needs identified through interactive collaborations on clinical and
translational studies. The Department of Biostatistics will conduct innovative
biostatistical research that will develop novel methods to satisfy requirements
of TRI collaborations and develop innovative grant proposals for projects on
biostatistical methods for general application in clinical and translational
research.
