 Radiology In the News:
ACH is Filmless

In the Spring of 2004, Arkansas Children's Hospital Radiology Department completely redesigned and renovated the radiology reading room with ergonomically-designed radiologist workstations in preparation for an electronic, filmless radiology environment. We began installation of a PACS system, "DR Systems," which is integrated with the hospital information system. Eight radiologist workstations have been installed, and clinical viewstations have been installed in all the intensive care units, every operating room, the emergency department, the burn unit, the patient floors, and all the outpatient clinics.   Medical student views electronic images.

Radiology residents, Erik Young and Shaheen Hussaini, view images on new PAC system at ACH.   In July, 2004, PACS images and "voice clips" of the radiologists' impressions of every examination became available on any PC in the hospital network, and in the offices and homes of referring doctors throughout Arkansas via secure Internet connections. The radiology department and hospital are now "filmless," with PACS images completely integrated into the patients' electronic medical records.
