Many of the UAMS radiology faculty have recieved national recognition and prestigious awards for various work in the field of radiology.  This page provides links to a few of the most recent events highlighting UAMS Radiology faculty in the news.

Remote conferencing for the benefit of residents rotating to satellite hospitals has become a reality at Arkansas Children’s Hospital this year with the assistance of Dr. Chetan Shah.

Dr. Shah along with radiology residents, Dr. Ralph Panek, Dr. Chandra Donepudi and Dr. Rohan Samant have worked on a system for remote conferencing so that residents assigned to ACH can view and participate in conferences held at UAMS. This system eliminates commuting between sites thus saving the resident time. Post-call residents can connect to the VPN and participate from home. This allows faculty and technologists at remote facilities to participate in conferences as well. Residency programs other than radiology can benefit from remote conferencing. A power point is attached.  Click here to view the presentation.

Richard B. Gunderman, MD, PhD, visits UAMS to deliver Inaugural Sally Klein Resident Education Lecture.

Richard B. Gunderman, MD, PhD, Vice Chairman of Radiology and Director of Pediatric Radiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, was invited to deliver the Inaugural Sally Klein Resident Education Lecture Series as a Visiting Professor on February 28 and March 1, 2007.

The Klein Lecture, presented in a joint Radiology/Medical Humanities Grand Rounds, was titled “Why is Ethics Essential?” Additional lectures to Department of Radiology faculty and staff included “The Decline and Fall of Radiology (And How to Prevent It),” “Are Radiologists Invisible?” and “Specialization and Coordination in Radiology.” Timely and thought-provoking, these sessions encouraged the pursuit of excellence in medical education, construed above all in ethical terms.

The Sarah G. Klein Resident Education Lecture Series was established by the graduating class of 2006 to honor Dr. Klein for her contributions and extraordinary efforts as the UAMS Diagnostic Radiology Program Director from 1993 to 2006. Members of the class are Drs. David Childs, Whit Goodwin, Eric Hoover, Anil Kilpadikar, Brian Owens, Shane Tharp, and Shane Whitlock. The lecture series is dedicated to the continuing advancement of radiology resident education.

Dr. Goodwin and Dr. Tharp presented Dr. Gunderman and David with an Arkansas Traveler certificate, an expression the state’s regard for individuals whose contributions to the progress, enjoyment or well being of the State of Arkansas merit special recognition. In exchange, we hope that the Gundermans will always have nice things to say and good stories to tell about their time spent in Arkansas.

“Dr. Anil Kilpadikar, who finished his residency in June 2006 and is now in private practice in Tulsa gave a Board Review to the current residents and then treated them to dinner at PF Changs”

After 13 years, Dr. Sally Klein stepped down as Program Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency. Several of her former residents surprised Dr. Klein by attending the 2006 Resident Graduation Dinner where Drs. Jack Long and Yvonne Queralt recounted memories of Dr. Klein's influence on their residency years.

Dr. Lile travels to Sri Lanka with a medical mission trip to aid tsunami victims

Dr. Henry Lile, a major and radiologist from Roland, volunteered to fly as part of a three-person reconnaissance team that snapped images of the storm damage for emergency management authorities less than a week after the hurricane. Lile has flown airplanes as a hobby for 58 years. After a five-year stint as a flight surgeon, he spent most of his career working with patients on the ground. He retired from his full-time radiology practice in 1999, and now works part-time at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. After 20 years of medical mission trips from Kenya to Peru, he has spent the past three years rotating his white coat with his air-patrol uniform.
