Sample Handling and Processing Equipment A Forma Anaerobic Chamber permits specimen and sample manipulations (e.g., grinding, mass and pH determination, aliquotting) in the absence of air and moisture. A Mettler MX5 analytical ultramicrobalance and a Fisher pH meter were not inside for this picture. For anaerobic solvent removal, the Core has a VirTis Advantage EL freeze dryer with automatic stoppering, a Buchi Rotavapor and an Organomation N-Evap blowdown manifold. All of these devices are plumbed via a custom manifold system to the nitrogen gas valve of a high-purity liquid nitrogen dewar, or if a pressure drop is autodetected, to the outlet of a high-purity compressed nitrogen tank.
