WOMEN'S
SERVICES
COMMUNITY WOMEN'S CLINIC
The Community Womens Clinic offers comprehensive care to women by bringing together
the specialized treatment from UAMS, as well as Family Planning services by the Arkansas
Department of Health. There are many support services within the clinic, such as: social
workers; nutritionists; financial counselors; and Medicaid assistance. The Community
Womens Clinic offers full service womens care at an affordable price.
UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S HEALTH CENTER
The University Womens Health Center is an off-campus private,
faculty practice which offers a full range of womens services including: obstetrics
(including certified nurse midwives); gynecology; prenatal diagnostic testing; and the
most advanced reproductive technologies related to infertility, in the state. The Center
is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of health providers that are concerned with the
many challenges confronting women. We encourage women to become actively involved in their
healthcare and support them with education and instruction during each visit.
WOMEN'S HEALTH ANTEPARTAL UNIT
Most women have few problems with pregnancy. They are able to work and care for their
family until the time when the baby is born. Women who do need inpatient medical care
before their baby is born are admitted to the "A" wing on the fifth floor.
POSTPARTUM / NORMAL NEWBORN
After you and your baby have been observed in labor and delivery, you will both be
admitted to the "C" wing on the fifth floor. One nurse will care for both you
and your baby. This "couplet care" allows you and your baby to get to know each
other and for you and your family to care for the baby in a supported environment.
Visiting hours are 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. We understand that friends and family will want
to visit, but we ask your help to limit your visitors to two at a time. Siblings are
allowed to visit but need to obtain visitor passes from the secretary in order to stay in
your room. For protection of your baby, and other newborns, no one with a cold, fever, or
virus will be allowed to visit. All visitors must leave by 8:30 p.m. unless you have a
private room. If you want someone to stay in your room overnight,; you will need to ask
for a private room before leaving Labor and Delivery. A cash deposit must be paid at the
time you sign up for a private room.
THE NURSERY
Some babies cannot be admitted to the mothers room because they need special medical
care in the nursery. If your baby is placed in the Intermediate Level Nursery (IL2) or the
Intensive Care Nursery (ICN), you will be allowed to visit as soon as you are able. Only
parents and grandparents are allowed to visit babies in these special nurseries. |
