The Division of Campus Operations supervises and coordinates all facilities, engineering, construction, maintenance, housekeeping, and occupational safety activities. It is also responsible for telecommunications, mail and messenger services, campus security, the UAMS bookstore, plant operations (including planning and scheduling), utility distribution, and biomedical engineering support. Contracts with outside architectural and engineering firms, as well as other governmental agencies, are coordinated through this office.
Two types of services are available to the UAMS campus:
1.) General Support Services are those activities for which Campus Operations departments receive budget allocations. There is no charge for these services. Typical support functions include:
Maintenance and repair of building utilities such as heating, plumbing, gas, electrical systems, and in special cases, fume hoods.
Custodial services such as disinfecting, waxing and refinishing floors, cleaning windows, emptying trash cans, and pest control
The maintenance of all door locks and initial distribution of keys
Painting the interior and exterior of buildings and public areas on an as-needed basis. Refer to Administrative Guide.
Providing construction and renovation estimates
Telephone maintenance
Safety training and consultation
Environmental monitoring programs
Biohazardous waste disposal
Routine non-radioactive hazardous waste
2.) Departmental Servicesare rendered on special request and are chargeable to the department for which the service is performed. Typical activities in this category include:
Maintenance and repair of departmental equipment, i.e., desks, chairs, refrigerators, lab equipment, window air conditioners, etc.
Modifications or renovations required for departmental operation, including installation of new equipment, modular furniture and painting beyond normal needs
Motor pool services
Telephone services for installation, monthly rental, and long distance charges
Set-ups for special events, and off-campus moves
Mail services on a charge-back basis
Radioactive waste disposal which requires use of contract waste broker
Personal monitoring services for radiation workers
Employee monitoring programs for formaldehyde, nitrous oxide, and other materials.
