SCOPE

UAMS Workforce.

POLICY

This policy requires the use of Microsoft SMS on all standard UAMS desktops supported by IT. Because of the strengths of the tool, it is imperative that controls are maintained on the use of Microsoft SMS. Abuse by any individual entrusted with its use will not be tolerated. This tool is critical to business needs, and departmental cooperation is needed to make optimal use of it across campus. Any individual abusing Microsoft SMS will immediately lose access to its use and will be subject to discipline up to and including immediate termination.

PROCEDURE

1. Microsoft SMS will only be routinely used for pushing Microsoft Operating System and Microsoft Office upgrades. Any other software push requests will be coordinated with the affected areas and departments.
2. Audit trails will always be configured as “On” at the workstation and server.
3. A technician will only request remote control access in response to a user-initiated Help Desk call.
4. The user will need to grant access and is required to be at the system while work is being done.
5. Remote control will be used only in instances where it benefits the remote customer.
6. SMS rights will be tightly controlled and will only be granted to trained and authorized individuals for the purposes of providing support in response to user requests.
