Information that is no longer needed must be disposed of in an appropriate manner depending on the information’s respective level of classification. Once the sensitivity of the information has been established by the manager, certain disposal and/or destruction of this information is required.
1. UAMS Internal Use only
When no longer needed, these documents should be deposited in any waste basket. Exceptions to this rule are the UAMS Internal Phone Book, which should be deposited in a UAMS Confidential waste container.
2. UAMS Confidential and UAMS Confidential Restricted
These documents should be placed in a UAMS Confidential waste container. It is recommended that they be shredded. Notes, rough drafts, EMAIL prints, etc. used to create UAMS Confidential material, must be disposed of in the same way. Diskettes, tapes, and removed hard drives should be physically destroyed and made unusable.
3. Registered UAMS Confidential
Registered documents, including reports on diskettes or any other magnetic media, are not to be discarded by the holder. They are to be returned to the recorder of Registered Documents. Paper documents must be shredded, diskettes, tapes, removed hard drives should be physically destroyed and made unusable.
