SUBJECT: VISITOR WAITING AREA

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to notify employees within the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) of the procedures and restrictions associated with the various visitor waiting areas located throughout the campus. One of the major purposes of the UAMS Medical Center is to provide services for its patients. An integral part of this service is the provision of facilities for relatives and visitors. In this regard, the solariums, waiting areas, elevator lobbies, main hospital lobby and the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) waiting areas should be available for patients and their visitors.

PROCEDURE

  1. Public areas such as solariums, waiting areas, elevator lobbies, the main hospital lobby and the ACC waiting areas are for the use of patients and their visitors and are not to be used by employees as eating areas, break areas or lounging areas.
  2. Specific break and lounge areas within departments may be designated by department directors.
  3. Break and lounge areas available to employees include the Canteen and Cafeteria located on the ground floor of the hospital.
