EQUIPMENT AND FURNITURE MOVING PROCEDURES |
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to inform
departments within the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) of the
procedures to be followed when requesting moves from Property Services.
PROCEDURE

Departments requesting moving
assistance must submit an
Equipment and Furniture Moving Form. This form must be received
by Property Services one week in advance of the proposed moving date.
Scheduled moving days and times are normally Monday through Friday from 8:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This form can be sent to Property Services via E-mail, fax
(686-8118) or campus mail.

Upon receipt of the form the
Moving Crew Manager will contact the department requesting moving assistance.
The Moving Crew Manager will confirm a moving date and time. The Moving Crew
Manager will also determine if any other departments such as Physical Plant
must be involved with the move.

If Property Services is unable to
fulfill a department's moving needs due to size, difficulty or time
requirements, Property Services will contact the department to explain why
they are unable to complete the move, then assist the department in contacting
a moving company. A schedule of moving fees is available by contacting the
Moving Crew Manager at 296-1047. Free moving fee estimates can be obtained by
contacting the Moving Crew Manager.

The following procedures are to be
followed by the requesting department in preparing for a move.

All items should be packed
prior to the scheduled move date. Any fragile items boxed should be marked
"Fragile". Property Services will not be responsible for damage incurred to
items incorrectly packed and/or marked. Property Services will not pack any
items for the moving department, unless it has been pre-arranged with the
Moving Crew Manager.

All drawers in desks and
file cabinets must be emptied and left in place.

All equipment that is to
be moved shall be disassembled. Property Services will not assemble or
disassemble either equipment or furniture.

All equipment shall be
disconnected prior to the move time. Property Services will not disconnect
nor connect any equipment including computer equipment for the moving
department.

Any chemicals that are to
be moved must be cleared with Occupational Health and Safety prior to the
move time.1

Property Services will not move
small objects that do not require the use of a hand truck, dolly or small
float.

New equipment that is still in the
original packing can be moved by Property Services, but Property Services will
not accept responsibility concerning its operation upon assembly.

Moves that require a truck are
contingent on the weather.
