SUBJECT: UAMS SAFETY BELT USE POLICY

PURPOSE

UAMS recognizes that safety seat belts in vehicles are an important and an effective item of personal protective equipment and that appropriate use of safety seat belts can prevent needless deaths and injuries. This policy establishes mandatory safety seat belt usage by UAMS employees and/or occupants while in any UAMS owned, leased or rented licensed road vehicles.

POLICY

All licensed road vehicles owned, leased or rented by UAMS will be equipped with appropriate seat belts. Seat belts shall be used in all UAMS owned, leased or rented vehicles. This policy applies to employees and occupants while operating such vehicles on or off campus.

PROCEDURE

  1. The driver of the vehicle is responsible for enforcing seat belt use by all occupants.
  2. Seat belt systems in all UAMS vehicles are to be upgraded where necessary and maintained so that they are clean and easily accessible, and in good working order.
