Message from the Dean

Teaching, healing, searching and serving – from humble beginnings in 1879, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has brought these four missions to life. It is with great pride and thankfulness that we inaugurate the 125th Anniversary of the College of Medicine.

By the standards of great European universities, UAMS is young. But then, the practice of medicine as we know it, is only in its second century. Celebrating the College of Medicine’s distinguished 125-year history is indeed a milestone and is a tremendous tribute to the accomplishments of our faculty, alumni, trustees, benefactors, staff and friends. We have been extremely fortunate to have passionately devoted and extraordinarily talented men and women who have led the College through both challenging and rewarding times.

In our anniversary year, we have many reasons to be proud of what so many dedicated faculty and alumni have accomplished over the years. We will continue to speak eloquently of our accomplishments, our potential, our opportunities and our commitment that makes the College of Medicine great. Please join me in the celebration of this momentous occasion.

Sincerely,

E. Albert Reece, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A.
Vice Chancellor, UAMS
Dean, College of Medicine
